Sandbags Body Bags

Sandbags Body Bags

Sandbags Body Bags is an ongoing project that envisions sandbags as bodies, evoking the stark reality of flooding, erosion, and rising oceans due to climate chaos and other human-driven phenomena.

The intention for this endurance performance and art installation was to foster awareness of the fundamental precariousness of our cities in the face of climate chaos. To be jolting, to leave an impression that inspires conversations around mitigation and adaptation — ultimately avoiding the outcome that the Sandbags Body Bags project implies. The video documentation on this page is from The Performance Arcade New Zealand which took place in Wellington in February 2024.

Below you can watch a video with commentary about the process of this performance and installation, as well as a video of one full performance cycle.
